How you can help?

There are many ways to get involved, some ambitious and others simple, some suited for individuals and others for church communities.  We hope the spirit catches you to join the work here in one or more of these ways or in a new creative way!

Your Thoughts, Prayers, and Notes

It is a powerful gift for Hondurans to know that there are people of faith in another part of the world thinking, praying, and taking the time to send e-mails and letters to the people of Honduras.

Send a Mission Team to Honduras!

Talk to a church who has sent a Mission team.  It can be a profound experience for the team and for the congregation, resulting in a deeper understanding of what mission is, your own walk with Christ, and a general renewal and re-energizing of a church community.  MEH invites you to join God’s work in Honduras through this important ministry of generousity and humility.

Collect and Send items that are needed in Honduras

Below is a list of items that are either hard to find in Honduras or very expensive.
These are great items to send with a team because shipping is expensive.

F      If you don’t know of a team that could carry items, consider instead donating money to buy the items in Honduras.  Even though they are more expensive, the extra cost of buying them in Honduras is still less than the cost of regular shipping.

Scholarships for Honduran children

Public schools in Honduras are free, but children are sometimes unable to attend because of the cost of the uniforms and school supplies they are required to buy.  Each year in February, when the Honduran school year begins, the church tries to support as many students as possible.  It is a ministry that will impact these children’s lives for their entire lives.

The cost of helping one child is, on average, $100 per child per school year.  (Older children’s supplies are typically more expensive than those of the younger ones.)  This is roughly the break-down in the annual costs:

Buy Fair Trade Coffee

Both individuals and congregations can directly support local coffee growers when they buy fair trade coffee.  This is a way to buy Central American coffee that cuts out the middleman, who usually buys coffee from a local grower, rarely paying the grower a price that is enough to live on, and sells it at a huge mark-up.  Thus the local grower is not able to invest in things like education for their children, or in their coffee growing business, and are unable to take steps to better their lives.  By contrast, fair trade coffee organizations pay a living wage to growers, and sell to churches and individuals who want to make a more socially responsible choice.  Click here to order our Fair Trade Coffee delivered anywhere in North America.
